What’s Happening with Baby – Week 19 Edition

Your baby’s sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don’t be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

That’s the last thing this baby needs to hear – my singing.  Actually, I’ve been belting out tunes in the car with reckless abandon lately.  Everything from Johnny Cash to Rob Bass and DJ EZ Rock to Neil Diamond.  Seriously, who can resist the hook of Sweet Caroline?  My mom is convinced that I should be putting headphones up to my belly and having the baby listen to classical music.  I’m not so sure I subscribe to that line of thinking.  We’ll stick to my singing for now 🙂

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting.

Can they come up with any other ways to describe this growing baby other than food related?  Last week the baby was the size of a red pepper, this week it’s a large heirloom tomato.  Glad to see the legs and arms are in proportion to one another – the last U/S we had showed longer legs with itty bitty T Rex arms.  The body growth has caught up to the head, too. *whew*

Toward the middle/end of my pregnancy Griffin seemed to really respond to classic hip-hop and gangsta rap 🙂 And lots of 50 Cent. Go, Go, Go, Go shorty, it’s your birthday…

That’s *awesome*! I remember you saying that when Griffin was really little there was a certain Beastie Boys song he really liked and you had to listen to it over and over again in the car. We’ll just have to wait and see what this baby’s tastes are going to be. I’ve got my fingers crossed that they won’t take after their Dad and like Pink Floyd.

Hey without Pink Floyd you wouldn’t have the music that is out there nowadays. Wait. Is that a good thing? Maybe it will like Shiloh’s type of music!! I feel a Heart’s of Space baby coming on!
